It takes 4 segments to read a scroll of protection from undead. Once used, the protection extends in a 5ft radius circle from the reader, and moves with him or her. The effects last for 10d8 rounds.

The scroll will affect up to 35 hit dice of undead. Any creatures in excess of this may pass through the circle. In a mixed group of undead, the lower HD will be affected before the higher HD ones, and a partial effect is not possible (so if 33 HD of monsters had been affected and then a 4HD monster tried to breach the circle, it would succeed.

The protection extends only to physical attacks, not to spells or other attack forms.

Variants:

Some such scrolls only affect one particular type of undead, so it would be possible, for example, to find a scroll of protection from ghouls.
